2016 elections forum set to open in Kismayo city

The national forum on the electoral process of Somalia’s 2016 election is expected to kick off today in the southern port city of Kismayo, the regional capital of Lower Jubba province.

Speaking to Radio Shabelle on the phone from Kismayo, Jubbaland’s interior minister Mohamed Warsame Darwish said that the conference will start later today, with the presence of high-level officials.

Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, prime minister Omar Abdirashid, parliment speaker Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari, leaders from the country’s regional administrations and international community representatives are in attendance, according to the minister.

During the conference, Somali leaders will decide what kind of election will take place in the country in August 2016, whereby the current federal government expires its mandate.
